ABOUT US

Our Story...

In 1990 a beginner’s quilting class was conducted at the Etowah Art Gallery on Wall Street in Cartersville, GA. Over a six week period, 12 students learned the art of hand piecing from Shelby Morris but after the class ended, students would occasionally call and ask Shelby for help. We wanted answers for questions and solutions for problems we encountered as we ventured into learning new piecing and quilting techniques. After meeting in the homes of class members for months, we thought it would be a good idea to call ourselves a guild and elect officers. Wanda Ingram served as the first president of the guild.

For the first decade, the guild maintained between 10 and 20 people at any given time.  In 1998 we were asked to hang a quilt show at the Etowah Art Gallery. It was a resounding success and through the exposure of that show we gained several new members. Since then, we have continued to grow steadily, creating a membership of men and women of all ages, backgrounds and levels of quilting ability.  We welcome anyone who makes quilts, wants to make quilts, or anyone who just loves them and simply wants to hang out with quilters.

In our efforts to continue to grow, we became a part of the Cartersville Recreation Department. Each year we are involved in several community service projects. We value our community and have donated to many worthy local organizations. More essentially, by teaching classes, featuring local and national speakers at meetings, attending retreats, quilt camps, hosting a biennial quilt show, and through sharing information and patterns within our membership we fulfil the stated purpose of the guild, “to promote and perpetuate the art of quilting”.

Visitor Info

Come over for a visit, our meetings are social and fun! We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at the Cartersville Civic Center, located at 435 W Main St, Cartersville, GA 30120. After a quick drive through our charming downtown district, you'll find the civic center (with plenty of close parking) adjacent to our fantastic public library, nestled amoung some of Cartersville's best historc homes.

Although festivities officially begin at 7pm, it would be great to meet you during our social time, beginning at 6:30pm. As a visitor, we'd like to notify you of a $2 guest fee- that will be applied toward your membership dues ($30 annually) if you decide to join that night. For your own comfort we also suggest you dress in layers as it's difficult to satisfy everyone with one thermostat.

We begin with a program/speaker for the evening. EVQG loves learning new techniques and we work hard to bring in wonderful educators and contemporary speakers. This is followed by our business meeting including announcements from our president and committee chairs.

Following the business meeting we have our show & tell portion of the evening. During show & tell we take a moment to appreciate the accomplishments of our members or share with the group a vintage piece of work. Be prepared to be WOWed! To send you off with a bang we finish with the fun of a door prize drawing. Upon arrival you should be given a ticket, typically the last 3 digits of that ticket will be used to tell you if you've won one of our fabulous door prizes for the evening.

This concludes our meeting. We hope you decide to come visit us and look forward to meeting you!
